Hook Norton Shire Horses meet the PM

It has been quite difficult for the horses in this wet weather – the fields are very wet and flooded in parts, and water has been running through the stables. But both the horses and Roger who looks after them have been quite philosophical – we are really only being inconvenienced, nothing compared to what others are suffering further south of us. So it was a welcome reprieve on Saturday, when the horses had their first outing of the year, to The Swan at Ascott under Wychwood, which was celebrating its reopening. David Cameron was there to support the opening, and showed great interest in the horses. Roger is probably Tory bordering on UKIP, but enjoyed a robust discussion with the PM!

Earlier in the week I had been at a reception at Number 10, hosted by Mrs C. This was for Style Acre, who work to support people with learning disabilities. They are working on a facility in Banbury, next door to The Coach and Horses, so we hope to treat some of them to a pie and a pint in due course!

Meeting Harriet Baldwin MP

On Friday afternoon, I met Harriet Baldwin MP, at The Queen’s Head in Sedgeberrow. Turns out her agent went to Bloxham School, so we shared some memories, not least of which he remembered running the Junior Common Room, which stocked Hooky beers; he clearly also knew of The Elephant and Castle! It was an opportunity to talk to Harriet about Beer Duty, and the BIS enquiry into PubCos.

Oxfordshire has seen a lot of flooding – but mainly in the City and South. We have been very lucky. The village fire crew have been in oxford, helping protect properties, and keep the main arterial routes open. Never seen flooding like this before.
